Main St. bridge closes, detours June 10

One-week closure expected

Storm and sanitary sewer installation is scheduled to begin near the Main St. bridge in Mantorville on Monday, June 10,which will require the closure of the bridge to motorists and pedestrians.

Crews will have to dig up the road to install the storm and sanitary sewer pipes, which requires closure of the road. The closure is expected last about a week, weather permitting. Crews will work as quickly as they can to complete the work and will reopen the bridge as soon as they can.

People should use the detour of Co. Rd. 12, Co. Rd. 9 and Co. Rd. 16. Residents and business owners can contact Scott Howard with questions about access to properties: 507-951-1067. In addition to the storm and sanitary sewer installation on 4^th St, crews are finishing up the sidewalk from 7^th to 9^th St and the storm sewer between 4^th and 6^th Sts.

Safety

Crews are reporting that drivers are cutting through private property, which puts residents and workers at risk. Please respect the property of others. Law enforcement is also aware of speeding and dangerous driving in the work zone.

Slow down and drive with caution

Drivers traveling too fast and not paying attention are the main causes of work zone crashes. Follow these safe driving tips:

Obey posted speed limits. The fine for speeding in a work zone is $300.
Drive undistracted. Avoid using phones, mobile devices, adjusting the radio – even eating – while in work zones.
Move over. Give workers room to safely complete their work.
Know before you go. Get real-time information about traffic and road conditions at 511mn.org or download the free 511mn app at Google Play or the App Store.
Be patient. Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
Do the zipper merge.
Avoid making unnecessary lane changes.
Never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones.
Expect work zones to constantly change. Day to day you could experience lane shifts, closures, narrower lanes, moving workers and vehicles.

The project contractor, Elcor Construction, meets in-person weekly with community members. Please come and ask questions about the project.
