Bridge Closing

 We are working with Elcor to minimize the amount of time the main street bridge will need to be closed and also what we can do to meet our Fire/Rescue squads needs.

Hwy 57 reconstruction Mantorville Main St. bridge to close beginning June 10 Storm sewer installation will occur near the Main St. bridge in Mantorville soon. To ensure safety, the bridge is scheduled to close beginning June 10 for a week, weather permitting. Crews will have to dig up the road to install the storm sewer, which requires closure of the road.   People will need to use the detour of Co. Rd. 12, Co. Rd. 9 and Co. Rd. 16. Residents and business owners can contact Scott Howard with questions about access to properties: 507-951-1067. Our project team is continuing to discuss access for emergency responders to minimize any disruptions. In addition to the current work of storm sewer installation, crews are also installing curb between 6th and 9th streets. Safety Crews are reporting that drivers are cutting through private property, which puts residents and workers at risk. Please respect private property of others. Law enforcement is also aware of speeding and dangerous driving in the work zone. Slow down and drive with caution Drivers traveling too fast and not paying attention are the main causes of work zone crashes. Follow these safe driving tips: Obey posted speed limits. The fine for speeding in a work zone is $300. Drive undistracted. Avoid using phones, mobile devices, adjusting the radio – even eating – while in work zones. Move over. Give workers room to safely complete their work. Know before you go. Get real-time information about traffic and road conditions at 511mn.org or download the free 511mn app at Google Play or the App Store. Be patient. Expect delays, especially during peak travel times. Do the zipper merge. Avoid making unnecessary lane changes. Never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones. Expect work zones to constantly change. Day to day you could experience lane shifts, closures, narrower lanes, moving workers and vehicles. SEMAC awards $5000

 The Southern Minnesota Arts Council has awarded Mantorville's "Larger than Life" annual art display with a grant of $5000 to provide sign supports, advertising and promotions. This is a huge boost to the Mantorvilles art community.

Memorial Day is about Remembering

Monday, May 27 is Memorial day, the day we take time to remember those that have served all of us so that we may have the freedoms, rights and lifestyle we currently enjoy. During our extra day off it is important to keep our armed forces personnel in our thoughts and prayers. The city was decorated with our flags and many of my neighbors have the Kasson-Mantorville flags flying in their yards. I encourage you to remember those that have paid the ultimate price of freedom this weekend. While it is never enough to just say thank you, a heart felt “Thank You” does go a long way to mend a heart wounder by war and or separation. On behalf of the City and from myself, I extend a warm and must deserved Thank You! To all of our service personnel.

Be Responsible this weekend

 This weekend is historically a very deadly weekend. Drink responsibly, don't drive after drinking and just pay a little extra attention this weekend, especially in those work zones.

Remember work zone safety during Memorial Day weekend travel Memorial Day weekend is approaching. The three-day weekend is the unofficial kickoff for summer travel, and it’s expected that more drivers will be on the roads than previous weekends. This can cause traffic slowdowns or backups, especially near work zones. The 2024 construction season in Minnesota includes 193 planned road and bridge projects, plus 54 projects that will improve airports, water ports, railroad crossings and transit infrastructure. Safety in work zones Please always be prepared to encounter traffic changes when approaching work zonesincluding lane closures, lane shifts, uneven road surfaces, slow-moving heavy equipment and slow or stopped traffic. D6 - Hwy 57 in Mantorville: 2024 construction Highway 57 Mantorville update 9th Street closing today for 3-5 days Elcor Construction, the MnDOT contractor, plans work on 9th Street this week beginning today (Monday). It will close the intersection for 3-5 days, weather permitting. Be alert and do not go past barricades that have closed the road. Watch for work along Highway 57 as crews continue with water main and storm sewer replacement. Pay attention to speed limits and signs and barricades. Some crossings of Hwy 57 are blocked, but there is often an open crossing up the next block or two.  Slow down in town, do not use Hwy 57 as a through traffic route There are concerns about traffic speeds in Mantorville. Be aware that you can be ticketed for speeding. Use the detour route when you do not need to stop in Mantorville. It will reduce traffic and improve safety. Entering Mantorville from the south on Hwy 57 is for residents and people who are visiting a business in town. Mantorville Open for Business

 The business community is open for business as usual through-out the construction period. Local businesses are report significant decrease in patrons due to construction and want everyone to know that they are open and ready to serve. This weekend the Hubble House was the chosen destination for a Model T club and the owners were thrilled to have the business. If you have a club or family reunion or other and need a nice place to meet, keep Mantorville in mind our local businesses need our support!

Casey's Parking lot is hot a Hwy!

 The path through the construction to 4th street is to stay on Hwy 57, not cut through Casey's parking lot. Taking a short cut through a private business's parking area is dangerous! Traffic that is going to Casey's store can exit early, but through traffic should stay on Hwy 57 until the intersection.

D6 - Hwy 57 in Mantorville: 2024 construction MnDOT: Hwy 57 Mantorville weekly update Work continues in between wet weather Construction in Mantorville on Highway 57 continues on pace as crews work in between rainy days and the effects of wet weather. Calcium chloride was applied in some areas to manage dust from traffic. Do your part by slowing down and following speed limits through the work zones. Many intersections remain open. Be alert for signs and barricades indicating which crossings are closed. Often the next crossing will be open. Crews will be installing storm pipe next week on Ninth Street and will be working to keep the area open. Slow down and look ahead. Work will also be taking place between Sixth and Ninth streets, which will eventually open the area. Watch again for updates when the work is at a stage where traffic may again use it. Use detour If you're traveling on Highway 57 and don't need to stop in Mantorville, please use the detour. It's more efficient for you and safer for all who live and work within the construction zone.  Access remains open for motorists on Highway 57 entering Mantorville from the south to reach their homes or visit businesses.
