D6 - Hwy 57 in Mantorville: 2024 constructionThe road and sidewalks are starting to take good shape in Mantorville along Highway 57 as construction crews continue to pave the base layer of the road and pour concrete for sidewalks. Thank you for your patience. But please continue to keep this a safe work zone. You can help by slowing down, paying attention, and not driving past barricades and road closed signs. When you drive past barricades, you’re entering a work zone where workers may not expect to see vehicles other than construction equipment. CurrentlyYou’ll see crews preparing boulevard areas as they work on sod and seeding the boulevards and other areas adjacent to the sidewalks Flaggers may be working with traffic to ensure safety in some areas. Stay alert. LookaheadPaving of the base between Fourth and Fifth streets is scheduled for next week, another signal that work is progressing. Utility poles still need to be moved, but we expect them to be moved in the coming weeks as the project moves closer to completion. Please use the detour if your destination isn’t Mantorville. Weekly meetingThe project contractor, Elcor Construction, will be meeting in-person weekly with community members. You are invited to come and ask questions about the project. Time: Wednesdays at 2 p.m. each week Location: County Seat Coffee House, 1 5th St W, Mantorville, MN 55955 SafetyDrivers traveling too fast and not paying attention are the main causes of work zone crashes. Follow these safe driving tips: - Obey posted speed limits. The fine for speeding in a work zone is $300.
- Drive undistracted. Avoid using phones, mobile devices, adjusting the radio – even eating – while in work zones.
- Move over. Give workers room to safely complete their work.
- Know before you go. Get real-time information about traffic and road conditions at 511mn.org or download the free 511mn app at Google Play or the App Store.
- Be patient. Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
- Do the zipper merge.
- Avoid making unnecessary lane changes.
- Never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones.
- Expect work zones to constantly change. Day to day you could experience lane shifts, closures, narrower lanes, moving workers and vehicles.
