D6 - Hwy 57 in Mantorville: 2024 constructionRoad paving work continuesPaving work on Highway 57 is happening. There will be more layers of paving – crews call them lifts – so be alert and slow down. Do not drive past barricades that have the streets closed. Crews are scheduled to pave the base layer between Fourth and Fifth streets by the end of next week as well. Watch for sidewalk paving downtown early next week, weather permitting. Check in with the contractor on timing of sidewalk paving. The information can help determine if there’s a schedule that might work for the business and contractor. It doesn’t always work that way, but it’s worth having the conversation. Contact Dave Kelly with Elcor Construction, if you have questions about access to your property during paving operations. 612-357-2588. Please use the detour if your destination isn’t Mantorville. With paving work and ongoing construction, we want to keep the work zone safe and can do so with your cooperation by slowing down, paying attention, and not traveling through Mantorville unless your destination is for home or business in town. Highway 57 detour. Drivers traveling too fast and not paying attention are the main causes of work zone crashes. Follow these safe driving tips: - Obey posted speed limits. The fine for speeding in a work zone is $300.
- Drive undistracted. Avoid using phones, mobile devices, adjusting the radio – even eating – while in work zones.
- Move over. Give workers room to safely complete their work.
- Know before you go. Get real-time information about traffic and road conditions at 511mn.org or download the free 511mn app at Google Play or the App Store.
- Be patient. Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
- Do the zipper merge.
- Avoid making unnecessary lane changes.
- Never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones.
- Expect work zones to constantly change. Day to day you could experience lane shifts, closures, narrower lanes, moving workers and vehicles.
