Happy Easter:I hope everyone was able to have a fantastic and joyous Easter Celebration this past weekend. There was a celebration in Riverside park with the annual Easter Egg Hunt, this is always a popular event for the younger kids and I hope you were able to take part in the fun. The bad news is that we will have to wait another seven long months to get our skis and sleds out, but in that time we can look forward to our city celebrations, tuning our sleds, sharpening our skis and planing our next great winter vacation.
Volunteer Opportunity:
The opportunities to volunteer on a formal sub-committee with the city is getting more competitive. The City currently only has one position for a Fire Fighter and one park board member position available. The two remaining opportunities will go fast so secure your spot today by contacting City Hall and filling out a application form. There are also opportunists with the Marigold Days Committee, the Stage Coach Days and Tourism committees. The three sub committees just mentioned above are less structured and are more focused on a single activity or event. Any of the opportunities mentioned above are a great way to get involved with your community and give back to your neighbors. Please consider joining a committee today.
Safe Routes to School:
The SRTS group meet last Thursday and we disused plans on how to move forward, what the current SRTS plan is, grant funding and individual leaders for each segment of the plan. While the State Legislature still has outstanding business to conduct regarding the State budget, the School board, City of Kasson and the City of Mantorville will continue to examine ways for our students to get to class in the safest way possible and additionally provide for alternative travel options including walking and biking paths. A letter to your State Representative and or State Senator would be appropriate and ask them when a final budget will be presented.
Waste Water Treatment:
The progress on the new line to Kasson continues and the work is currently by the field next to the current bike path just south of the sub-division on the south side of Mantorville. The crew have experienced a few unanticipated delays due to the subterranean composition, however we have work though these issues and will continue to make additional progress this week. I will try and post some pictures of the current progress on my blog later this week.
Joint Ventures:
The DCI published a nice article a few weeks back about the joint venture. This group is a collaboration between the City of Kasson, The City of Mantorville and the KM School district. The Joint Ventures board meet a week prior to the last article in the DCI and at that time we determined that the middle school, and Riverside park needed some new / updated basketball hoops. The group has ordered two new plexiglass back broads for Riverside park. These new back boards will be installed as soon as they arrive and the City of Mantorville has authorized the resurfacing and striping of the courts in Riverside park. As a reminder the Sheriff's office will continue to monitor for parking infringements on our courts including siting those that park on the surface of the courts. The City of Mantorville is making an investment in these resources and we want to keep them nice for everyone to enjoy.
Yours in service,
Chuck Bradford,
Mayor - City of Mantorville
